Residents of Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State were filled with excitement on Wednesday as the Royal Initiative for Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo), in partnership with Lafarge Cement, rolled out a series of impactful community development projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery and environmental infrastructure across border communities between Ogun and Lagos States.

At the heart of the intervention was the donation and commissioning of a fully equipped primary health centre located in the Afisuru area of Ogijo. The facility, which is expected to serve residents of the boundary community, marks a major boost to accessible healthcare in the area.

On the same day, RIDSCo also inaugurated newly provided medical equipment and furniture at the Sagamu Primary Health Centre in Sotubo, further strengthening healthcare services within the local government. In addition, three concrete culverts constructed in Ogijo were commissioned to address persistent flooding challenges that have long affected residents.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chairman of RIDSCo, Chief Michael Oyedele, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to delivering projects that directly improve the living standards of people in Sagamu communities, regardless of location or boundary limitations.

He noted that the achievements were made possible through the strong support and partnership of Lafarge Cement, which provided the funding for the projects. Oyedele also urged health workers to make effective use of the newly provided facilities and remain committed to delivering quality and timely medical services to residents.

Commending Lafarge Cement, he described the company as a dependable partner in community development and called on other corporate organisations to emulate its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Representing Lafarge Cement, Mr. Ezekiel Obasanya stated that the collaboration with RIDSCo reflects the company’s broader vision of improving the well-being of communities where it operates. He assured that Lafarge would continue to support initiatives that bring meaningful development and improve the lives of Nigerians.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Community Development Council (Everlasting Area, Ogijo), Hon. Ademola Adenuga, expressed joy over the completion and commissioning of the health centre, describing it as a long-awaited relief for the community. He recalled that the project began in 2012 and praised RIDSCo, with support from Lafarge, for completing and furnishing the facility.

He emphasized that the intervention would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the area while also appealing for additional support in the provision of medical personnel, a functional ambulance, electricity supply, and ICT equipment to ensure efficient operation of the centre.

Also speaking on behalf of Sagamu Local Government, Mrs. Adelani Busirat Bolanle expressed appreciation for the initiative, assuring that the government would ensure proper maintenance of the facilities to preserve their intended purpose and long-term benefit to the people.

The projects further reinforce the growing partnership between RIDSCo and Lafarge Cement in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life across Sagamu communities.
