Sagamu residents experienced renewed hope and improved access to healthcare as Lafarge Africa PLC, in partnership with the Royal Initiative for the Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo), successfully carried out the 2025 Sagamu Community Medical Outreach—a two-day free healthcare intervention designed to address common health challenges across Remo communities.

The outreach took place on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th November 2025 at the Remo Royal Event Center, Aafin Akarigbo, Ita-Oba, Sagamu. Activities commenced daily by 9:00 a.m., with hundreds of residents turning out to access a wide range of free medical services.

The initiative, fully sponsored by Lafarge Africa PLC, formed part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility commitment to improving the wellbeing of host communities. In collaboration with RIDSCo, the programme was carefully structured to ensure efficiency, accessibility, and maximum community impact.

The exercise was coordinated under the supervision of Mr. Teju Ogunjimi, an executive member of RIDSCo, who ensured smooth registration processes, effective crowd control, and orderly service delivery throughout the two-day event.

Medical personnel on ground provided comprehensive health services including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, malaria screening, general medical consultations, and eye examinations. Patients diagnosed with malaria received immediate counselling and were given free antimalarial drugs on the spot, ensuring prompt treatment and relief—particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those managing chronic conditions.

A major highlight of the outreach was the distribution of free prescribed medications, dispensed immediately based on medical diagnosis and professional recommendations. This ensured beneficiaries not only received diagnosis but also direct treatment support.

Free corrective eyeglasses were also provided to residents with vision impairments, a gesture widely appreciated by artisans, traders, and elderly beneficiaries who rely heavily on clear eyesight for daily activities and livelihoods.

On the first day alone, more than 400 residents were attended to, while the second day recorded an even higher turnout of over 500 beneficiaries. In total, the programme delivered free medical care to over 1,000 residents across Sagamu and surrounding communities.

Representatives of Lafarge Africa PLC reaffirmed the company’s long-standing commitment to sustainable community development through impactful interventions in health, education, and economic empowerment. RIDSCo, on its part, expressed satisfaction with the success of the programme and reiterated its resolve to continue championing grassroots development initiatives.

Beneficiaries widely described the outreach as timely, impactful, and life-changing, noting that it came at a critical period when many households are struggling with rising healthcare costs.

The 2025 Sagamu Community Medical Outreach stands as a strong example of effective public-private partnership, demonstrating how collaboration between corporate organizations and community development groups can deliver tangible improvements in public health and overall wellbeing.
