Lafarge Holcim/RIDSCo Boost Infrastructure In Sagamu With Three Key Projects, Vows To Commission More Before Year-End

The Royal Initiative for Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo), in partnership with Lafarge Holcim Plc, commissioned three major infrastructure projects in Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State. The projects—spanning educational, healthcare, and community infrastructure reflect Lafarge’s commitment to community development and are part of the 2023 Community Project that were launched in 2023 and completed early this year due to unforeseen delays.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, RIDSCo Chairman, Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, emphasized that while the projects were intended for 2023, RIDSCo is committed to addressing community needs regardless of timing.

“These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to Sagamu’s growth and well-being, and we look forward to delivering even more impactful projects by the end of 2024,” Mr. Ogunjimi noted.

A member of the Project Monitoring & Evaluation Committee, Sir Teju Ogunjimi also emphasized on the commitments and vision of HRM Alayeluwa Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CFR, LLM, FCA, FBR, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land to revitalized RIDSCo. “Government can’t do it all, and HRM Akarigbo through this initiative has brought relief to both government burden and the masses requests, Teju Ogunjimi stated.The projects commissioned listed below are:

1. Renovation of a School Hall at Batoro Community Grammar School

A comprehensive renovation of Batoro Community Grammar School’s hall has revitalized its infrastructure. The well-structured buildings are now better equipped to support students and staff, creating a conducive learning environment. Mrs. Ogunlesi Oriyomi Oluyemisi, the school’s principal, expressed her gratitude to the benefactors, acknowledging the school’s selection amidst numerous requests received by RIDSCo. “This support has truly enhanced the educational facilities for our students, and we appreciate the attention given to our needs,” Mrs. Ogunlesi remarked.

2. Complete Renovation and Equipping of Isote Health Center:

The Isote Health Center, a vital healthcare facility serving the local community, received a comprehensive overhaul, including modern medical equipments. This transformation enhances the center’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services to Isote community and environs. Otunba Tayo Opanubi, a RIDSCo member highlighted the center’s importance, stating, “Health facilities are pillars of every community, and we are proud to be part of this upgrade, ensuring access to improved healthcare for our people.”

3. Construction of a Concrete Culvert in Imeko Community, Soyindo Area of Sagamu

The third project, a concrete culvert in Imeko community located in the Soyindo area of Sagamu along Ikenne Road, addresses pressing infrastructure needs. The culvert aims to improve drainage and prevent road erosion, contributing to safer transportation routes within the community.

Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Odumosu Olamide, the financial secretary of Imeko community, thanked Lafarge and RIDSCo for taking up such a crucial project. “This is the type of development we hope for, as it directly impacts our day-to-day lives. We’re grateful that RIDSCo and Lafarge have stepped in where the government has yet to act,” Mr. Odumosu said.

The initiatives underscore the ongoing collaboration between Lafarge and RIDSCo in supporting sustainable development across Sagamu. With plans to deliver additional projects by the close of 2024, Engr Jamiu Oriade, the Plant Manager of Lafarge’s Sagamu Plant, stated that Lafarge would continue to support the community on all forms and ways that would lead to growth and development because the company and her staff are part of Sagamu Local Government.

Lafarge and RIDSCo have set high standards for community investment, focusing on projects that enhance education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
