The Royal Initiative for Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCo), in partnership with Lafarge Holcim Plc, has reinforced its commitment to grassroots development with the commissioning of three critical infrastructure projects in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The projects—cutting across education, healthcare, and community infrastructure—form part of the 2023 community development plan initiated by Lafarge and executed through RIDSCo. Though initially scheduled for completion in 2023, they were finalized earlier this year following unforeseen delays.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, RIDSCo Chairman, Mr. Sammy Ogunjimi, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to community impact, stressing that timelines would not deter meaningful intervention.
“These initiatives demonstrate our unwavering commitment to Sagamu’s growth and well-being. We are determined to deliver even more impactful projects before the end of the year,” he said.
A member of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, Sir Teju Ogunjimi, highlighted the visionary leadership of Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, noting that the monarch’s revitalization of RIDSCo has significantly complemented government efforts.
“Government alone cannot meet all societal needs. Through this initiative, His Royal Majesty has helped bridge critical gaps, bringing relief to both the people and public institutions,” he stated.
Breakdown of Commissioned Projects
Education Sector Boost
At Batoro Community Grammar School, a fully renovated hall now offers an improved learning environment for students and staff. The school’s principal, Mrs. Ogunlesi Oriyomi Oluyemisi, expressed gratitude, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
Healthcare Upgrade
The Isote Health Center underwent a complete transformation, including structural renovation and the provision of modern medical equipment. According to RIDSCo member, Otunba Tayo Opanubi, the upgrade strengthens access to quality healthcare for residents of Isote and neighboring communities.
Critical Infrastructure Development
In Imeko Community, Soyindo area, a newly constructed concrete culvert along Ikenne Road is expected to improve drainage, prevent erosion, and enhance road safety. Community representative, Mr. Odumosu Olamide, commended both organizations for addressing a long-standing need.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
The Plant Manager of Lafarge’s Sagamu facility, Engr Jamiu Oriade, emphasized that the company remains deeply rooted in the community and will continue to invest in projects that drive sustainable growth.
“We are part of this community, and we will continue to support initiatives that improve lives and foster development,” he assured.
The event was attended by key stakeholders from both organizations, including Hon. Adeyiga T. Awoyemi, Comrade Adekunle Bello, Comrade Oluwole Aduroja, Comrade Oluwaseun Onabajo, and Lukman Banjoko from RIDSCo, as well as Lafarge representatives such as Engr Lameed Adebayo, Ezekiel Obasanya, Olufemi Olutoyin, Akim Wahid, Adeolu Lamidi, and Community Relations Manager, Engr Yomi Owolabi.
With additional projects in the pipeline before year-end, the collaboration between Lafarge and RIDSCo continues to set a benchmark for private-sector-driven community development in Ogun State.
