The year started with the rejuvenation of this sub-committee. A new membership was constituted with the addition of two members of the newly inaugurated Sagamu Youth Council and a new Chairman in person of Engr. Adebayo Osiberu was appointed. The terms of reference of the new sub-committee were delineated in a letter to the Chairman and these were adopted by the sub-committee as the road map for effectiveness. The Sub Committee had during the year done a lot of ground work and documentation required for the smooth and effective performance in years to come.
A current survey of industries and commercial businesses was commissioned and based on the interim report, the categorisation of industries and ranking for engagement had been done. It was decided to commence engagement with sensitisation of the community on the roles, functions and performances of RIDSCo in the last few years. For this exercise, the organised groups of the community were listed for interaction. The video and other materials for sentisisation were prepared. The first of these series of meetings was organized for the Obas and Community Heads and was very successful as it had in attendance the Akarigbo and over fifteen (15) Obas. The campaigns and subsequent national general elections however disturbed the continuation of these meetings because of the obvious political activities. With the elections over the meetings would resume very soon.
The Sub-Committee is also embarking on visits to factories and major work places within the Local Government area to introduce RIDSCo. The numerous benefits from relating with the Community through the authentic representative – RIDSCo especially for all Corporate Social, Responsibilities (CSR) would be emphasized. For this purpose the itinerary of visits and letters had been prepared. The New Year will therefore witness unprecedented level of activity by the subcommittee.
The SCDC Business & Industrial sub-committee commenced the year with the review of contacts with Business Membership Organizations and companies within Sagamu Local Government Area for the effective implementation of their Corporate Social Responsibilities through SCDC. All necessary tools for the contacts/meetings like Documentary CD, Media Projector, Public Address System etc were procured by SCDC.
During the year under review the sub-committee met many organizations such as Business Membership Organizations like the Welders Association, Hairdressers’ Association etc, Banking Group and Medical Group.
The committee serves as a link between the Business Community and the Community in general. This Committee, in order to create an enabling environment and attract further commercial investments, had written letters to more than 120 business concerns in Sagamu Local Government Area. Production of an SCDC Documentary Profile detailing evidence of all the Council’s Activities.
